Goba Hills Marathon to be held again this year in Dar es Salaam
The Goba Roads Runners (GRR) Athletics Club has today officially announced the launch of the Goba Hills Marathon (GHM) for the year 2023 which will be held for the fifth year in a row after the success of four seasons since it officially started in 2020.
The race is expected to take place on February 3, 2023 at the grounds of Goba Secondary School in Ubungo district in Dar Es Salaam. The motto of Goba Hills Marathon 2024 is “Run, Save the Life of Mother and Child” where the main goal of the race is to improve the health of mothers and children by improving the environment of hospitals, especially maternity wards.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam today when announcing the race and launching the official jerseys that will be used along with the medals of the participants of the race, the Chairman of the Goba Roads Runners Club (GRR) Revocatus Kahendaguza said that the club is proud to run the Goba Hills Marathon with great success for five seasons in a row, being the first running club in the country to run a modern level Marathon and touch the community around them directly. .
“We are very happy because when you talk about athletics in the country, you cannot stop mentioning the contribution of our club which is run on a membership system. The club has succeeded to a large extent in motivating the community to live on the basis of good health which is a national priority. Our intention is to continue to reach the larger community through education and to do more athletic events”. Vice Chairman of the Club, Mr. Benson Luoga said that the club will give 10% of the income of this race to touch the community in the area of Mother and Child as it was in the last four seasons where the club was able to donate various medical equipment for mother and child in the Goba clinic, located in Ubungo in the city of Dar Es Salaam. For his part, the Secretary General of the Club and the Organizer of Goba Hills Marathon, Similwa Mdumbwa said that the race will be 42.2 kilometers (Full Marathon), 21.1 kilometers (Half Marathon), 10 kilometers (Corporate Run) and 5 kilometers (Family Run). . .
Mr. Mdumbwa said the registration for participating in the race was Tsh. 35,000 for each race and registration has already opened and participants have started registering. For groups or institutions, the registration fee is 30,000 shillings from 10 people onwards. He added that “The jerseys of the participants of the Goba Hills Marathon along with the medals of those who will finish have already arrived in the country and today we are officially launching them here, so the participants should not expect longo longo as has happened in some races in the country where they register and then the necessary equipment for the race has not arrived”.
Goba Roads Runners (GRR) is a sports club recognized by the Athletics Federation of Tanzania (RT) as organizers and good participants in athletics in Tanzania.
